Confidential Information Poisoning

James Comey, head of the FBI, has made much of the fact that Hillary Clinton's e-mails contained "classified" information. Of course, since it's "classified" (yet another last refuge of a scoundrel), he can't tell us what that information was. But we do have some clues. The e-mails messages were not marked as classified in the same fashion as other classified e-mails, that would have a line as part of the To/From settings. The messages were all sent from unclassified networks. Ms. Clinton would not have had access from her server to a classified network. So any messages sent or received would not have been from a classified to a non-classified network. If this were the case, then the problems related to that security failure would overwhelm the question of Ms. Clinton's e-mails. We do know that various branches of Federal agencies have different rules for declaring messages classified or no. We can surmise that one agency's secret might be ...

Is there such a thing as "too secure"?

Ok, rant on . I'm tired of being interrupted periodically (incessantly?) by either McAfee Scan Engine and/or Safeboot Client Manager fighting to the death of the last CPU cycle on my horribly ancient XP system (that's an issue of "tech refresh", but that's a different complaint). Couple this with a mandatory firewall (no problem with that), as well as content filtering proxies on the corporate network, and my productivity frequently goes into the dumper for literally between five and ten minutes. Did I mention that CPU hog Outlook along with a painfully slow Exchange system? And I hear that end-point Data Loss Prevention is coming. Let joy be unconfined! I know that the outsiders are now the insiders. I know that bad policies exist such that people have access to company information that they may not need to see, and now we have to look at every scrap of information that passes thru the corporate portals just to make sure that there's no possible liability e...
